I loved this book !
I was transported to a childhood growing up as an expatriate in the vivid chaos of Hong Kong. Dominique paints a picture of her unique quirky family life filled with unusual pets, friends and family.
Whilst her young beautiful mother works in nightclubs trying to make a living, Dominique has all the freedom to explore the streets of her beloved city weaving a story of bizarre and wonderful experiences with her menagerie of eclectic friends.
With a sense of absence from belonging and a yearning for the “perfect” family, we follow Dominique as she loses and finds family members in an effort to understand her own identity and become more comfortable in her own skin, the story twists and turns and is full of delightful and tragic moments that shape her life. A wonderful book that’s truly inspiring!
